District of Columbia officials announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the nation's capital as the leading EPA Green Power Community.  District Government, businesses, institutions, and residents are collectively purchasing nearly 756 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually – enough green power to meet 8 percent of the community's total electricity use.  This tremendous, voluntary effort ranks the District as the number one EPA Green Power Community in the country.
