Schools in Lorain County have been awarded more than $1.5 million in funding from Safe Routes to School, a federal, state and local effort to enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school, according to the state transportation department.
The goal is to make walking and bicycling to school safe and appealing, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation, which has awarded $21 million for safety upgrades around schools since 2005.
