As the global movement towards sustainability continues to dominate headlines and policy agendas, the importance and demand for ‘green skills’, or ‘skills for sustainability’ among our current and future workforce and within our communities is also growing.
The concept of ‘skills for sustainability’ is an umbrella term that sees practical, technical and professional skills combined with the knowledge, values and attitudes required to address the challenges of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
It is widely accepted by tertiary institutions, professional industry bodies and the federal government that Australian graduates should be leaving university with a solid understanding of sustainability, as well as the capacity to face real world problems.
Australian higher education institutions are implementing a range of learning programs and initiatives addressing these challenges.
